Spa services We are pleased to offer spa services. Our massage therapists and estheticians provide therapeutic massage, Reiki, facials, body treatments, waxing, and more. SAFE program The SAFE program is a post-physical therapy fitness program for women. It provides support for post-therapy exercise programs, general instruction and supervision on use of exercise equipment, small group activities focusing on functional abilities (e.g., balance, flexibility, stamina, strength), and a non-judgmental fitness experience promoting body trust and awareness. Come and learn: * Why we fall * CDC recommendations for making your home safe * Muscle memory exercises * Good body mechanics and body awareness * "Kitchen sink" exercises Please come wearing comfortable clothing and shoes. About the instructor: Fiona Gilbert is an ACSM-certified health and fitness specialist (HFS) and also has an AA in adaptive fitness and a certificate in adaptive aquatics. Some of her past work in the fitness field has been with older adults and individuals with multiple sclerosis. Fiona holds a PhD in social sciences from Curtin University of Technology in Australia. Bollywood Dance Saturday, Oct. 2, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Members FREE, Non-members $10 Get a full-body workout and develop flexibility, balance, and strength as you move to the rhythmic beats of this lively form of dance. Class begins with stretching and warm-up, and breaks down combinations of technique and posture. For women of all ages and body types. Great for beginners! Restorative Yoga Fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Sunday, Oct. 3, 1-3 p.m. FREE or donation ($5-$30) All proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Learn to use Feldenkrais Method and Hanna Somatics movements to release long-held patterns in the neck, shoulders, and spine to help relieve pain, increase ease and range of motion, and improve flexibility and coordination. This work affects the nervous system at a very deep level, leading to feelings of peaceful relaxation. The class ends with restorative yoga techniques and a healing meditation. About the instructor: Serena Lucchesi is a graduate of the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health and an Advanced Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga instructor. Mindful Living and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Free intro session: Thursday, Oct. 7, 7-9:30 p.m. Weekly sessions: Thursdays, Oct. 14 - Dec. 9, 7-9:30 p.m. (no class Nov. 25) Full-day session: Saturday, Nov. 20, 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. $300 plus $40 materials fee Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating non-judgmental awareness in everyday life. It is a practice of learning to pay attention to our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations and acknowledging whatever is present moment to moment. The practice cultivates connection and balance. Participants learn lifelong tools to help maximize life, even in the midst of life's intensity. The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program is an intensive eight-week training to empower participants to take an active role in the management of their health and wellness. The classes meet weekly for 2.5 hours, and there is an all-day session in the sixth week. Participants are asked to practice mindfulness meditation and/or mindful movement for 30-45 minutes a day with instructional CDs. About the instructor: Rochelle McLaughlin is a faculty member of the Occupational Therapy Department at San Jose State University. She has completed professional training in MBSR with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr. Saki Santorelli of the University of Massachusetts Medical School as well as through the Stress Reduction Clinic at El Camino Hospital. Rochelle has completed advanced studies in humanistic psychology and is a certified yoga instructor. Her teachings are steeped in her own personal mindfulness practice, which brings depth and insight to her teachings. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Greek Dance Saturday, Oct. 9, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Members FREE, Non-members $10 Greek dances are fun and a really good workout. In this free workshop, you'll learn two or three dances from different areas in Greece. Please wear clothing you are comfortable moving in and sneakers or dance shoes. No dance previous experience needed. About the instructor: Vicky Tsakiri is an ACSM-certified personal trainer and a certified mat Pilates instructor. She holds a BS in physical therapy and worked as a physical therapist in Greece. She continued her education, earning a diploma in musculoskeletal physical therapy from Manchester University in the U.K., before coming to the U.S. Pre-registration is recommended.
